Adilei Practice Materials
This is a project close to my heart, and probaby driving some of the design choices I've made with the SEED.html features.
In my non-software development time I sing with some Melbourne-based vocal ensembles. We largely sing folk music from caucasus Georgia. (I am a member of the 9-voice men's ensemble Gorani, and the 4-voice mixed Tsinskaro.)
Serving this interest I have travelled in Georgia to learn songs from the families who keep these traditions alive: The Chamgeliani sisters in Lakhushdi. The Turmanidze/Dumbadze family in Merisi. Avto Turkia and the Gordeladze family in Guria. Beso Tshitanava in Zugdidi.
One of my Georgian friends who has guided these tours is Levan Bitarovi.
Levan is a member of Ensemble Adilei, who perform traditional songs from various regions of Georgia. Before their 2017 tour to the United States of America they released an album of Practice Materials on bandcamp.
The Practice Materials consist of four mp3 files for each song. The first file is the full mix of the song. The three remaining files each foreground one of the voices (lots of Georgian folk songs are in 3 voices).
I've taken these four recordings for the song "Vakhtunguri" and packaged them in an EPUB file, with music notation for each part. My intention is to present the material in a way that assists a small ensemble to learn the song.
